Rytas Vilnius is saying goodbye to team captain Margiris Normantas. Closely connected with the club, the Vilnius-born player has become a key part of the organization over the years. His contribution to the team’s victories and the locker room atmosphere has been undeniable.

Margiris Normantas signed his first contract with Rytas in 2015 at just 18 years old. At that time, he was loaned to Vilnius Perlas and developed within the club’s system. Later, he briefly represented Kėdainiai Nevėžis, and during the 2018–2019 season, he played in Rytas’ main squad, followed by several seasons with the Panevėžys team.

After successful seasons with Lietkabelis Panevėžys, the guard returned to Vilnius in 2021. Over the next four years, Margiris became one of Rytas’ leaders, and at the start of the 2022 season, he was named team captain. With the team, Normantas won the Betsafe-LKL championship twice – in 2022 and 2024 – and earned respect from fans, teammates, and the coaching staff alike.

“Few know how much I love this club, its colors, and this amazing city – the City of Dukes,” wrote Margiris Normantas. “I am extremely grateful to you, the fans. I am extremely grateful to the club, the players, the coaches, the office team, and my loved ones. I have truly grown as a person, as an individual, and as a player.”

Last season, the guard averaged 10.7 points, 2.65 rebounds, 2.93 assists, and a 10.5 efficiency rating per game in about 20 minutes on the court. In the FIBA Champions League, his statistics were 7.1 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.4 efficiency rating per game.

Standing at 194 cm, Normantas has been exceptionally important to the Rytas organization both on and off the court. His loyalty and professionalism have set an example for younger team members.

“Margiris is a player who grew in our system, returned as a mature player, and became a leader. His path was not easy, but he was always determined and dedicated to the team. As captain, he brought character and emotion that meant a lot to us both on the court and in the locker room. Margiris will always remain an important part of this organization’s history. We thank him for everything he has given to the club and wish him success in the next stage of his career,” said Rytas Vilnius sports director Artūras Jomantas.

Rytas Vilnius thanks Margiris Normantas for his dedication, leadership, and significant contribution to the club’s success over the years. We wish him the very best in the next stage of his career.

Thank you, Captain.
