Rytas Vilnius (9-7) suffered their fifth consecutive loss in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL), sponsored by Betsson.

Gediminas Petrauskas’ squad defended their home fortress, defeating Giedrius Žibėnas’ men 95-87 (30:19, 22:26, 23:22, 20:20). This marks the first time in club history that Vilnius has endured five straight defeats. Meanwhile, for the Klaipėda side, this was their third victory in a row.

The first meeting between these teams this season had ended in a narrow 97-93 victory for Vilnius.

Looking at the league standings, Šiauliai and Lietkabelis Panevėžys both have opportunities this weekend to reach their ninth wins and pull level with Rytas Vilnius, which could see the capital club drop to fourth place.

Game Breakdown
The fourth quarter began with a surge from Jerrick Harding, who had missed eight two-pointers up to that point (72-77). However, the play of Arnas Velička forced Giedrius Žibėnas to call a timeout for Vilnius (78-84). Immediately after the break, Vilnius committed a turnover on the inbound pass, allowing Aurimas Majauskas to score four quick points (88-80). Although both teams traded baskets late, Arnas Beručka’s offensive rebounding and steals, followed by a Rihards Lomažs three-pointer and Zane Waterman’s free throws, sealed the game.

Record-Breaking Performance
The main hero for the hosts was Arnas Velička, who flirted with a triple-double. The guard scored 24 points (4/8 2PT, 4/5 3PT, 4/5 FT), grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 15 assists—setting a new LKL season record. Furthermore, Velička accumulated 47 efficiency points, which is also a league high for this season.

Match Progression
The encounter started intensely. Rihards Lomažs received a technical foul just three minutes in (6-6), but this only fired him up. The Latvian scored 10 early points as the hosts jumped to a 24-9 lead. Vilnius managed to find some rhythm toward the end of the first quarter thanks to Gytis Masiulis (19-30).

At the start of the second quarter, Vilnius went on a 13-2 run to tie the game at 32-32. When it mattered most, Lomažs and Velička regained control for Klaipėda (42-34). Despite a late 5-0 spurt by Vilnius in the final minute of the half, Velička hit a long-range shot to keep the hosts ahead 52-45 at the break.

After the interval, the tempo slowed. Vilnius attempted to close the gap with three-pointers (55-58), but the Klaipėda side maintained a multi-possession lead. While Gytis Masiulis continued to punish the hosts with accurate shooting, Velička—who secured a double-double by the third quarter—ensured the hosts entered the final period with a 75-67 advantage.

Klaipėda played without Donatas Tarolis and Martynas Pacevičius. Rytas Vilnius competed without Martynas Paliukėnas and Artūras Gudaitis.
