Rytas Vilnius delivered another dominant performance at the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. In their second Group A matchup, the squad coached by Nedas Pacevičius dismantled the Shanghai Sharks 107:66, securing a spot in the tournament semifinals.
The game began as a back-and-forth battle: Cassius Winston found Kay Bruhnke for a triple and an and-one play (6:4), while Artūras Gudaitis battled inside against Zhelin Wang, with Zhenlin Zhang and Liyongwei Xie keeping the Chinese side within striking distance (8:6). After Tianrong Li and Xiaolong Cui briefly put the opponents ahead (11:12), Michael Devoe erupted with eight consecutive points, teaming up with Ricky Lindo Jr. to reclaim the advantage (19:14). Tangwen Yuan and Pengfei Yan responded to nudge Shanghai back in front (22:24), but a free throw from Ignas Urbonas and timely scoring from Augustas Marčiulionis allowed Vilnius to edge the opening quarter, 25:24.
Early in the second frame, Wang scored inside (25:28), prompting Marčiulionis to ignite a decisive 10:0 run—assisting a Gytis Masiulis three-pointer, adding five points of his own, and watching Gytis Radzevičius pad the lead from the charity stripe (35:28). Radzevičius then dished out two consecutive assists to Masiulis for a pair of three-pointers (43:32). After Cui and Zhang trimmed the gap (44:36), Winston set up a Gudaitis slam (46:36) before knocking down a three-pointer and a midrange jumper himself (51:38). Bruhnke extended the cushion from the line (55:40), and despite late baskets by Li and Wang, Vilnius went into halftime leading 55:44.
Coming out of the break, Rytas Vilnius clamped down with suffocating defense, holding their opponents to just 7 points throughout the entire third quarter. A driving layup by Bruhnke (57:45), a Martynas Paliukėnas dish to Gudaitis (59:45), and a Radzevičius triple along with free throws (64:47) broke the game wide open. Lindo Jr. converted twice in the paint (68:47) and Gudaitis sank two free throws (70:49) to build a 20-point cushion. Marčiulionis soon added an and-one finish (73:49), Matas Jogėla drilled a three off a Masiulis pass (77:51), and free throws from Urbonas and Masiulis stretched the lead to 82:51 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Vilnius offensive engine stayed in high gear during the final period. Lindo Jr. and Masiulis each buried a three-pointer (88:55), Urbonas scored in transition (90:55), and Gudaitis hit from the stripe (92:57). Bruhnke then orchestrated back-to-back assists for triples by Urbonas and Marčiulionis (98:59). Moments later, Gudaitis rejected a shot by Yuan and scored at the other end off an Urbonas feed to hit the century mark (100:59). Winston set up Bruhnke for another shot from beyond the arc (103:59), and following a Winston steal, Lindo fed Jogėla for a transition flush (105:62). Late baskets by the Chinese side could do nothing to stop the rout, and Bruhnke sealed the final tally as Rytas Vilnius marched into the semifinals with an emphatic 107:66 triumph.
